Larry Smith will join us for our club meeting on September 7 to share information about the Community Military Appreciation Committee. CMAC is all inclusive, composed of members representing youth, education, civic, military, veterans groups, and local governments. CMAC's mission is to preserve and promote military history; to recognize veterans and military families for their contributions to our nation; to assist and support veterans, deployed military and their families; to recognize community and national events; and to make recommendations or take action on any other subject, pertaining to the well being of veterans and military families. Larry graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts & Sciences in 1965 and went on to obtain a Masters degree in both Recent American History & Human Resource Management. He also served in the Army for 26 years before retiring as a Colonel of Infantry in 1991. After retiring from the Army, he served as Assistant to the City Manager until 1996 and then went on to be the Director of the Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Department until 2003. Larry also served three terms on the Vancouver City Council before retiring from public service in 2015, and is an active member of the Rotary Club of Vancouver.
