Program: We all know Nelson Holmberg as a dedicated, innovative and hard-working member or Rotary. And most of us know about his passion for boats.
But how many actually know the story of Nelson’s involvement with the world’s fastest race boats?
A native of Clark County, Nelson isn’t the stereotypical kid who grew up with unlimited hydroplanes. Most of them grew up in places like Madison, Indiana; Seattle; Tri-Cities; or Detroit. But his dad, who did grow up in Seattle, introduced him to these race boats at an impressionable age.
And it stuck.
Now, he has quite a story to tell – “My Life in Boat Racing” – is that story.
The story started as “just a fan”, advanced to a hydro geek level fan, then to racing model hydroplanes and eventually actually getting into an outboard hydroplane and racing at speeds up to 70 mph. His passion for boat racing has culminated at the highest level where he works as a member of Bucket List Racing Team – one of the world’s fastest unlimited hydroplanes. He’s also proud to be a co-founder of Hobby Chef Racing Team, which started its second season in Electric Radio Controlled Unlimited last Saturday.
The other co-founder of Hobby Chef Racing Team, and Three Creeker, Tom Markos will introduce our speaker.
Chuck Bucks: Sergeant at Arms Jesse Braman
