Frequently Asked Questions About our Club
Where do you meet? And how frequently?
The Rotary Club of Three Creeks' home is the LaQuinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Salmon Creek. The meeting space offers a great place for friendships to blossom. We also do have occasional offsite meetings throughout the year. It is best to always double-check the Calendar page on our website to be sure you know where we are meeting.
Unlike most Rotary clubs, we only meet twice a month, on your way home from work, instead of a weekly lunch or early-morning breakfast meeting.
We meet the first and third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. In months when there is a fifth Thursday, we hold a social, fellowship or Fireside event. Those locations vary as well.
What are your attendance requirements?
While friendship is important, and our regular meetings provide for that, we realize that not everyone can always make the club meetings. As a result, when we crafted our bylaws, we included attendance requirements that provide maximum flexibility for our members. Our ask is "two Rotary interactions per month". This could be any number of things: Both regular club meetings each month, board meetings and hands on projects, make up meetings at other clubs, or even working on club committees.
Why are you the Rotary of "Three Creeks"?
The Three Creeks our club is named after include Salmon Creek, Cougar Creek (in Hazel Dell) and Whipple Creek (in Ridgefield). We provide service to each of these communities, which are within unincorporated Clark County and until October 2016, did not have a Rotary Club serving them. In the late part of the 21st century's first decade, a grassroots effort to incorporate the areas of Hazel Dell, Felida and Salmon Creek into a city, which would have been named Three Creeks, Wash. This effort did not gather the public support that was expected, but the area is commonly known - by residents - as Three Creeks. In fact, there are a number of facilities, including a public library, in the area with Three Creeks in their name.
How do I become a member of your club?
We encourage anyone who is interested in joining our club to visit a couple of our regular club meetings, or participate in our hands on community service events with us. It is our belief that this is the best way to get a feel for our club and decide whether it's something you are interested in being a part of. Once you have decided to join our club, we will help match you up with a sponsor who will work through the process of joining the club with you.
How much does it cost?
Membership dues for the Rotary Club of Three Creeks are kept low intentionally. It is our belief that providing service and networking opportunities to community-minded business and non-profit individuals is very important, and making it easy and affordable for people to participate is a priority. Our annual dues are $360. We do not charge room assessment or meal fees. We do ask for voluntary contributions to the Rotary Foundation (which can be as little as $10 per month). Finally, we offer the opportunity for members to "brag" or share something about themselves, their families or their businesses at each meeting. These "Chuck Bucks" as they've become known are voluntary, and can be as little as a dollar, or as much as the member would like to contribute. The funds from brag bucks are used to help support club operations.
What are "Chuck Bucks"?
For the first two or three years of the club's existence, one of our charter members, Chuck Green (public works director at the City of Ridgefield), would often throw a couple of bucks into the jar "just because", and eventually he started calling his "just because" bucks "Chuck Bucks". After a little time went by, the term "Chuck Bucks" stuck and we've formalized it into the club's culture.
What is Rotary?
However each of us chooses to serve, we do it because we know our service makes a difference in the lives of others. Whether we are building a new playground or a new school, improving medical care or sanitation, training conflict mediators or midwives, we know that the work we do will change people’s lives — in ways large and small — for the better. Whatever motivation each of us had for joining Rotary, it is the satisfaction we find in Rotary that causes us to remain, the satisfaction of knowing that week by week, year by year, we are making a difference.
